JONNI DARKKO SAYS: “I LOVE JOHN MAYER!”

So we’re sitting out in my backyard by the pool the other night at my little B-day party. We’re drunk. Darkko is here, and that makes me happy ’cause I haven’t seen him in a long time and I miss him.
But then he says something along the lines of “The new John Mayer record is fucking great!” and I say “Come again?” and he repeats himself and I still don’t believe what he said because I always thought he had good taste in music an John Mayer is about as good as Coldplay or Linkin Park and neither of them are very good either.
“Are you kidding me?” I ask. He isn’t.
For the record, John Mayer is that guy you see on TMZ every damn night trying to be cool outside some trendy nightclub in Hollywood. He has no real talent except for banging hot chicks who don’t know any better and think he has talent.
Anyway…
Jonni then says to me that “John Mayer is as good as Jimi Hendrix on the guitar!”
I laugh.
He’s not joking. Jonni says I should listen to him on guitar and decide for myself whether he is as good, but I know he isn’t so I won’t.
Now I have to think of a way to punish Darkko for saying such a horrible thing about rock and roll.
Any suggestions?

I have also been reading you for years and love your stuff.
Okay, for all of us who know great music, Hendrix is unique in all the world. He changed music and the guitar forever.
John Mayer is a competent guitarist. And some of his songs are decent “pop” songs. I saw his trio on TV and he has talent, put on a good “hey I can rock and play guitar too” kind of thing, but that’s it. Hendrix type of talent, uh, no, not a f*cking chance.
Darkko should know better…tell him to go to You Tube and look at some Hendrix live concert vidoes…he may need to cleanse his soul after such a dumb drunk statement. I do like his movies, so I blame it on the drink.

John Mayer is a terrible singer, but he’s probably the best guitar player currently alive today. I don’t know about Hendix comparisons, but Mayer can play the fuck out of a guitar.
